A strong believer in her faith in God, Lay along with her husband was faithful members of the Little Flock Missionary Baptist church in Gladys Georgia under the leadership of Bishop Richard R. Born May 14, 1941 In Irwin county, to the late Deacon William "Bud" J. Stepherson and the late mother Lila Clemons Stepherson. Uncle Bummer as he was affectionately known by many, was educated in the Irwin county school system. Willie accepted the lord as his personal savior at an early age as an active member of the Friendship Missionary Baptist church in Osierfield Georgia. Willie cultivated and developed his professional career in Danbury, Connecticut for many years as an employee of the Shepherd Warehouse Company. He also, maintained his spiritual relationship with God as a member of the Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church until he relocated to Fitzgerald Georgia and recommitted to the Friendship Missionary Baptist church of Osierfield Georgia.
