Mr. Herbert Wilcox Jr.

Herbert WilcoxWith sincere sympathy the Davis funeral home of Ocilla Georgia announces the death and home going  celebration for Mr. Herbert Wilcox Jr. of 606 East 10th Street Ocilla Georgia.  A devoted husband, father, brother uncle, cousin and friend, Mr. Wilcox was born February 12, 1949 in Coffee county Georgia to the late Mr. Herbert Wilcox Sr. and the late Mrs. Ollie Exum Wilcox.  Herbert aka "Buggie" was a true family provider and a friend to the community. On August 25th 1970  Buggie married the love of his life Mrs. Sandra L. Hardy Wilcox and enjoyed 48 wonderful years together. he received his education from the Irwin county public school system.

 

Early in life Buggie joined the Macedonia Baptist church in Wray Georgia under the leadership of the late Rev. C.H. Sneed.  Buggie was a hard worker and believed that a man should provide for his family by the sweat of his brow.  Early in life he worked in the sweet cane business in Belle Glade Florida, after which he worked for the power brothers and farmed.  He also worked for Ross of Georgia as a welder and mechanic.  His passion was working on small engines and welding.  Buggie was famous for his homemade biscuits, which was believed to be the best biscuits in town.  

 

Six sibling preceded him in death: Arron Adolphus Wilcox, Albert Lee Wilcox, Maggie L. Taylor, Isaac Wilcox, and Aretha Wilcox Anderson.

 

Herbert leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife:  Mrs. Sandra L. Hardy Wilcox of Ocilla Georgia. Nine children: Mr. John (Val) Lampkin of Fitzgerald Georgia, Ms. Keke Wilcox and Mr. Rico Wilcox , Mrs. Maria(Raymond) Hardy all of Ocilla Georgia, Mr. Rodney (Tiffany) Martin and Mr. Tony Martin of Fort Lauderdale Florida, Ms. Nicki Martin of Atlanta Georgia, 
Mrs. Cassie (Samuel) Newton of Douglas Georgia.  Mr. Rod Martin of Ocilla Georgia.  A special son Mr. Terry (Kenya) Ashley special and aunts:  Mrs. Ernestine Lewis of Ocilla Georgia.   Mrs. Mary Joyner, Mrs. Mildred Grimage.  Also special friends:  Ms. Gloria Hall and Mr. Henry Lee Hall. Grandchildren: Chaveka Hardy, Patrick Hicks, Zech Newton, Gabriel Reid, Gavin Reid, Gabrielle Hardy, Amiya Youngblood, Bryson Martin, Dwayne Reid, Jacquiesha Martin, Branna Fort, Kegahn Anderson, Jytaeious Anderson and Travis Roan.   Eight brothers:  Mr. Henry James (Shirley) Wilcox, of Ambrose Georgia, Mr. Ronnie (Linda) Wilcox of Ocilla Georgia,  Mr. Samuel Wilcox of Douglas Geoprogia, Rev. Kenneth (Deborah) Wilcox, Mr. Jerome Wilcox of Ambrose Georgia, Johnnie (Clerethe) McChaney of Fort Lauderdale Florida, Ms. Eloise McChaney,  Mr. Walter (Delores) McChaney,  and Mr. Jacob McChaney.  Four Sisters:  Ms. Brenda Wilcox of Douglas Georgia,  Mrs. Jennifer (Christopher) Gaskin of Plant City Florida, Mrs. Yolonda (Willie) Hicks of Douglas Georgia, Mrs. Tonya (Alex) Smith of Savannah Georgia.  Six sister in laws:  Mrs. Elaine Wilcox, Mrs. Lynn CcClendon, Mrs. Karen (Carry) Middlebrooks, Mrs. Daphane (Tony) Wynn all of Ocilla Georgia Mrs. Willie Bell Wilcox of Douglas Georgia.  Alson a host of nieces, nephews cousins relatives and friends.

 

A home going celebration for Mr. Herbert Wilcox Jr. aka "Buggie" is planned for Saturday April 21, 2018, 1:00 P.M. from the Midway Baptist church Holt Georgia where the Rev. Al Keith Milton serves as pastor.  Eulogy will be delivered by Rev. Willie C. Mobley, pastor of the Bethlehem Baptist church of Ocilla,  Rev. Bobby Harris will preside. Interment will follow in the Ocilla city cemetery.   Mr. Wilcox will lie state at the Davis funeral home 301 North Oak street in Ocilla, Friday Morning 10:00 until 7:30 p.m. and Saturday Morning 10:00 until 11:30 a.m.  The Davis funeral home of Ocilla has charge of all arrangements.  Join us in lifting the Wilcox family up in prayer.
