Henry Lee Rivers With sadness in our heart, the Davis funeral home of Ocilla Georgia announces the death and funeral services for the late Deacon Henry Lee Rivers Sr.  of 1648 Oakes Road, Ashburn Georgia.
On April 20, 1937, in Turner county, Ashburn Georgia the late Willie and Melvine Mylo Rivers were blessed with the birth of a God gifted son, Henry Lee Rivers Sr. At an early age he join the New Mt. Pleasant Baptist church where he remained a faithful member until he went home to be with the lord on February 5, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family and a host of friends.  Deacon Rivers was well loved and admired by family and friends and all he come to know him.  He received his education from the public schools of Turner County.  He supported his family as a farmer, and an employee of Nelson Farms.  After retiring from farming he sort entrance in lawn maintenance, and  continued this career  until his health failed.  As a member of New Mt. Pleasant, Deacon Rivers served as a Deacon, later becoming chairman of the Board of Deacon.  He also served as Sunday school teacher, and usher for many years.
Early in life Deacon Rivers met the love of life Mrs. Ethel Bell Clark Rivers, which developed into 62 years of lovely marriage.
Deacon Rivers leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Mrs. Ethel Bell Rivers, of Ashburn Georgia; four Daughters: mrs. Della Henry, Mrs. Rosie Evans, Mrs. Essie Jackson, and Earnestine Maddie  all of Ashburn Georgia;  Three sons:  Mr. Henry Lee Rivers Jr. and Wife Sandra, Mr. McArthur Rivers of Ashburn Georgia, Mr. Willie Hammock and wife Tamika of Tifton Georgia.  His sisters: Mrs. Irene Oliver of Wichita Kanas, Mrs. Sarah Martin, Mrs. Minnie Sheffield, Mrs. Bessie Davis, all of Ashburn Georgia.  Sisters-in-laws; Mrs. Mamie Rivers, Newark New Jersey, Mrs. Christine Tukes and husband Eddie B.of  Mrs. Dorothy Brown of Melborne Florida. Mrs. Mary Grace Clark of Atlanta Gerogia.  Brother-in-laws; Mr. Melvin Clark and his wife Brenda of Columbus Georgia,Mr. Jimmy Clark and his wife Needa of Melborne Florida, Mr. Raymond Clark and Mr. Sammy Clark of Ashburn Georgia.  A special great granddaughter Ms. Sierra and husband Amblnoonk of Ashburn Georgia. 24 grandchildren, 78 great grandchildren, 6 great, great grandchildren. An aadopted son Mr. Floyd Nelson and his wife Robin, of Pavo Georgia a host on nieces nephews cousins relatives and many sorrowing friends.
Funeral services for Deacon Henry Lee Rivers Sr. will be held on Saturday February 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. from the New Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Coverdale Georgia where the Rev. Jerry Braswell is pastor.  The Rev. Plezy Nelson will delivery the eulogy.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Deacon Rivers will lie in state at the New Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church from Friday morning 11:00 until 7:30 p.m. also on Saturday11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. The family will receive friends at the church at 6:00 p.m.  on Friday evening.  The Davis funeral home of Ocilla Georgia has charge of all arrangements.
